Although I haven’t been on a skateboard since I was in junior high school, I have to say that this promo video by Gravis footwear makes me want to get back on (wearing Gravis shoes, of course).
Two dudes skating through Shibuya at night with the camera shooting from a low angle focused almost entirely on the shoes makes for a pretty exciting sell for itself. The scene at 0:43 where the guy in the black top and red socks swerving by Tokyo “five-oh” was pretty bold and sweet. His co-skater with the preppy haircut and white dress shirt was also refreshing. Personally, I’m not too big of a fan of the baggy-pants-hanging-down-to-the-butt crack kind of look, so either good on the skater two or the production stylist for wardrobe selection. All this played out in neon-Tokyo as the playground, what else is there to say? Thumbs up!
Former Wolff Olins CEO, Eric Scott once said “All great organizations have one central thought, and that thought has to be big, simple, and true…” True dat. Gravis’ message is pretty clear: be bold, be cool, fuck authority, buy Gravis shoes.
